Construction is under way and volunteers and staff have been working hard on the Carbondale Aquatics Center opening in Carbondale in spring 2026! This new facility is coming to life thanks to the master plan and a large amount of input from Town Staff, the Board of Trustees, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Tree Board, a citizens based Working Group, a Design Advisory Committee, and the Carbondale Public Arts Commission. This will provide for an extended season of enjoyment and continue to reflect on Carbondale's community values of sustainability.

We get a lot of frequently asked questions about this project. Here's some answers to those questions below:

Q: If the pool is already under construction, why are you fundraising?

A: The Town approved this project with an $8 million bond that expires in 2026 so we needed to complete construction before that and because of when the bond was approved, we saw a large increase in cost for materials bringing the total project to over $11 million. Our goal is to fundraise $2.5 million to help offset the costs in the reserves and ensure we can continue to have great offerings be subsidized

Q: Why did the pool close early?

A: The John M Fleet Pool was failing. There were many issues behind the scenes that were creating safety hazards and closures due to the age of the facility. As these issues continued to pile up, it became clear that it was more fiscally responsible to shut the facility down early than continue to spend the money on the maintenance bandages.

Q: I've heard the pool is behind schedule. Is that true?

A: With the conditions during this winter, the construction crew is working hard to ensure this project stays on pace. This hard work has paid off and we are slightly ahead of schedule!

Q: How much more do you need to fundraise?

A: Our small group of volunteers and Town staff continue to work hard at the goal of $2.5 million. As of March 18, 2025, that team has raised $1.59 million which is made up of donations from approximately 230 individuals, families, business and grants. We can't thank them enough for their contributions to this project! Only $900,000 remains in these efforts and we are hoping you can help!

Reasons to donate include:

  • Sustainable investment for the community for 40 - 50 years
  • An all-electric facility, first one in Colorado, that meet's the Town's goals of green energy consumption
  • Affordable Learn-to-swim opportunities that are essentially in preventing drownings in a community with rivers and open ditches
  • Outdoor community gathering place in the heart of downtown
  • To ensure essential and desired elements like shade structures, diving board, play features, and more!
  • Employment opportunities in our beautiful downtown space
  • $1,000+ donation to get your name on the recognition wall that will be at the entrance of the pool
  • $10,000+ donation to join Let's Make a Wave Circle with larger recognition and an invitation to the exclusive grand opening
