Tactical Urbanism Implementation Comments

The Town of Carbondale is piloting a series of tactical urbanism projects this summer as part of a continued effort to make local streets safer and more accessible for everyone—whether walking, biking, or driving. These temporary projects are the result of extensive community engagement through MAP Carbondale, the Town’s online platform for gathering public input on transportation and mobility issues.

“Residents asked for safer streets, slower traffic, and more bike- and pedestrian-friendly design—and now we’re testing some of those ideas on the ground.”, said Kevin Schorzman, Public Works Director.

The improvements aim to slow traffic and enhance safety through features like bike lanes, bump outs, traffic circles, and prominent street markings. By testing these features temporarily, the Town can assess their effectiveness in real-time and gather additional feedback before making any long-term changes.

Residents are encouraged to participate in a brief survey to share their experiences with the new features. Survey responses will help determine which elements are successful, which need adjustments, and which could be made permanent or expanded elsewhere in town. The survey is open now through October 1, 2025. In addition, you are welcome to provide comments in this forum.
