WHERE WE ARE NOW

2024- Current Design

We've been working hard and are super excited to present the current Aquatics Facility design to Carbondale! This design represents the essentials of the master plan and a large amount of input from Town Staff, the Board of Trustees, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Tree Board, a citizens based Working Group, a Design Advisory Committee, and the Carbondale Public Arts Commission. After reviewing energy use and carbon impacts, the Town and Team have opted for an extended season (roughly May-September) rather than a facility that is open year-round. A pool open in January in Carbondale burns a LOT of energy and doesn’t reflect Carbondale’s community values of sustainability.

The final design as priced includes:

  • Six-lane lap pool with 12’ deep diving end. (when diving is open, 2 lap lanes remain open)
  • 2,448 SF recreational pool with a large 12” deep toddler shelf, multiple play features and 5’ deep swim lessons/flex area.
  • 2,743 SF single story building with a small office, guard shack area, changing rooms, storage, and mechanical room.
  • Fully electric building and pool heating systems which include roof mounted electric heat pumps and a PV system.
  • Modest paved pool deck with a grassy lawn area.

Alternate features which could be added to the project scope and/or added in a later phase, depending on pricing, include:

  • 153 SF hot tub (plumbing infrastructure will be installed now so this can be added later)
  • Built-in exterior shade canopy with a bi-facial PV system. This would provide covered space for birthday parties, families, small groups etc.. (electrical infrastructure will be installed now so this can be installed later)
  • Removable shade structure covering part of the pool deck and toddler play shelf.
