2024- Current Design

We've been working hard and are super excited to present the current Aquatics Facility design to Carbondale! This design represents the essentials of the master plan and a large amount of input from Town Staff, the Board of Trustees, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Tree Board, a citizens based Working Group, a Design Advisory Committee, and the Carbondale Public Arts Commission. After reviewing energy use and carbon impacts, the Town and Team have opted for an extended season (roughly May-September) rather than a facility that is open year-round. A pool open in January in Carbondale burns a LOT of energy and doesn’t reflect Carbondale’s community values of sustainability.

The pool is under construction with concrete poured in the lap pool as of November 14th. Why are we continuing to still fundraise?

The Town chose to move forward with the construction instead of delaying the project another year.

Our sources of funding include an $8 million bond issue approved by 74% of Carbondale voters and $1.6 million approved by Town Trustees from reserve funds.

An additional goal has been set forth to fundraise between $1.6 - $2.5 million in funds.

If the goal of $1.6 million is met, the Carbondale Aquatics Center will have three new bodies of water and a new building.

If the goal of $2.5 million is met, the Carbondale Aquatics Center will have all of the above included in the $1.6 million along with a built-in shade canopy, removable shade structure over the pool deck and toddler swim area, diving board, climbing wall, and pool play features!

With all of the funding already received, why should you donate?

Reasons to donate include:

  • A sustainable investment for the community for 40 - 50 years
  • Affordable Learn-to-swim opportunities that are essentially in preventing drownings in a community with rivers and open ditches
  • Outdoor community gathering place in the heart of downtown
  • To help pay for essential elements like the shade structures, play features, and more!
  • Employment opportunities in our beautiful downtown space
  • $1,000+ donation to get your name on the recognition wall that will be at the entrance of the pool
  • $10,000+ donation to join Let's Make a Wave Circle with larger recognition and an invitation to the exclusive grand opening
